The Doors We Leave Unlocked

Blurb:

We are all made of things we cannot quite remember. Of conversations that never finished, memories that never settled, and pieces of ourselves that seem to exist somewhere just beyond reach. There is a certain comfort in familiarity. In knowing where to sit, what to expect, and finding reassurance in the things that remain unchanged. But familiarity has a way of disguising the things we choose not to question. In a room where everything has its place, seven people navigate the delicate business of being understood. Some things are spoken, others are drawn, documented, or buried beneath laughter. There are silences that speak louder than words, memories that seem to belong to everyone, and feelings that linger long after their origins have been forgotten. Perhaps identity is not as simple as we would like to believe. Perhaps memory is not always ours to keep. And perhaps the things we leave behind never really leave us at all. Between what is remembered and what is forgotten, there are spaces we rarely think to look. Some doors are left open. Others are simply never closed. *The Doors We Leave Unlocked* is a quiet exploration of memory, identity, belonging and the parts of ourselves we spend a lifetime trying to understand.

Excerpt:

How did the room remember everything, even down to the smallest details, but still, felt off? The memories found in that room created a waterfall of emotions and words, dividing into streams winding around him, calling out in whispers. Caleb's voice echoed from somewhere near the window, "Nothing new." Elliot felt stranded as the voice grew further apart, as if he was searching for those memories that felt so close but so far.
