"You're late." Amara looked up from her notebook and rolled her eyes. "And yet, you're still here waiting for me." Ethan laughed softly as he took the empty seat beside her. "Maybe because some people are worth waiting for." For a moment, neither of them spoke. The noise of the campus cafeteria faded into the background as their eyes met. Amara quickly looked away, pretending to focus on her notes, but her racing heartbeat betrayed her. "Why do you always do that?" Ethan asked. "Do what?" "Act like you don't care." A small smile tugged at the corner of her lips. "Who says I don't?" Ethan's expression softened. "Then stop making me guess."
