I was in the yard chopping oak branches when she called my name, handing me my cup of coffee before settling into her usual spot. She loved reading so much that she often forgot to drink her coffee. She always took it hot, with caramel and cinnamon, sometimes even honey. The chain of thoughts broke when I spotted a deer peeking from behind a distant tree. Our eyes met, and it retreated further into the shadows. A chuckle escaped me as I returned to chopping. Funny how everything seems awfully brown lately.
