I feel like there's a chunk of my story that loses the plot a bit because a lot of things are happening at once. It's supposed to be a little chaotic but I don't want to lose any readers. How can I get across the chaos without scaring off readers or losing the main plot line?
I watched a Brandon Sanderson video about his editor complaining that he had too many events set in the same evening. Apparently it was not physically possible for all the events to actually have occured ๐ Are there ways to give the side-plots additional touch points to the main plot maybe? Some little reminders that the other thing is still going on in the background, even if it's not the focus point at that particular chapter.
perhaps you could just take a piece of paper whenever you feel you might lose your plot, or your general overview, and some different colors, and draw a short outline for your characters and what they are doing at the moment - you could pin it to your wall, and thus have your outline in plain view ... sometimes that helps me to keep the plotbunnies in line ... :D ... best of luck evil
Evil minded, that sounds like a good idea. I'm definitely a visual person so this would be helpful. As it is right now I'm trying to flesh out the plot and sub plots separately to figure out a timeline and then weave them together. Color coding might be necessary
