I've decided to moderate my noveling ambitions for this month. My aim is to write the first 25,000 - 30,000 words of a new novel during November and the remaining 20,000 - 25,0000 words next month. The novel is to be some sort of trans space opera. It's been [INSERT APPROPRIATE VERB HERE] in my mind palace for years. It probably has a zero-percent chance of being published for lucre, since it'll probably be heavy on the fanfic side of things. Meh. To quote Danton, "De l'audace, encore de l'audace, et toujours de l'audace." (I hope the whole "revolution" thing works out for him.)

Hello! I am also doing a half goal this November, hoping to get a completed novella out of it 😊

"trans space opera" is so seriously badass and awesome. i'd love to hear more about it sometime! my project is also in space, and has plenty of transness going on in there as well. i love science fiction, i think it lends itself especially well to trans themes and analogies. my main hobby is seeing a robot and going omg thats literally me

Excellent, Bethany! I think adapting the challenge to our goals and circumstances is quite in keeping with the NaNoWriMo spirit. Bonne chance to all of us!

spidersPatch, I hadn't thought about "trans themes and analogies" fitting well into sci-fi, but that makes sense. I think people have looked at "Blade Runner," for example, through the lens of queer theory.

It's not trans related specifically, but body augmention in scifi is definitely something I'd like to read more about. I believe using technology (both chemical and mechanical) to modify our bodies will only become more common in the future. To be honest there are some feelings I'd like to work through about it, and fiction is such a good tool for that 💚

Vivi- i gotta watch blade runner sometime. i feel like it’s a crime i haven’t yet !! for me, the most like. #relatable part of scifi tropes in a queer way are all the robots. there’s just something about them !! i think it definitely intersects with me leaning a bit in the gnc/nonbinary direction, and my being aro as well. maybe part of the robot thing is how a lot of the time, a robot’s physical body is the least important part about it. it can be moved from chassis to chassis, or uploaded to a cloud or computer and become immaterial altogether, endlessly modify itself, or come up with a new form altogether. and that’s just really cool to me. wish fulfillment, in a way.
